Summary

In this presentation Dr. Tracy gives a brief history of the development of markers of inflammation and discusses the ability of inflammatory markers to predict disease. Important issues in assay development and use are discussed, as well as future directions for inflammation measurement research.

Inflammation covers a broad range of molecular mechanisms, says Dr. Tracy, and various biomarkers are available or will be to assess different aspects.

Future directions for inflammation measurement research include combining biomarkers, using larger panels of markers for assessment of whole pathways, and using cell-based assays.
